Escapade!

March 25, 2017 By frugalrvT! 1 Comment

In my last post, I told you we felt we’d escaped. Guess that makes us Escapees. And, when 2,000 like-minded RVers get together for fun and learning, that’s an Escapade!

For the past 7 days we’ve been camped at the 57th Escapade – the annual Escapee RV Club rally just outside Tucson, AZ.  That’s probably longer than we’ll be parking in one location at any other time on this trip.

This was our third time attending this event and, despite the fact that we were here to work, educate, and promote my web sites, as always, we had a lot of fun.

More Fun than Work

2000 attendees

This is what a room of 2000 RVers looks like.

We met up with familiar faces and made a few new friends along the way. I guess some would call this “networking” but with this RV club, social happy hours abound, hugs replace handshakes, and it’s always just more fun than work. Maybe there’s a more appropriate word. Netplaying, perhaps?  It’s a long way to come just to attend this rally but, since we were on our way to California for a few months anyway, it was easy to make the decision.

Randy missed his calling; I didn’t know he was such a good salesman!

Rob and Linda – true friends – have taken a load of work off my plate; they’re helping me update my Arizona boondocking guide!
Our shady campsite
We had a great campsite – It was 90 degrees but we had shade and grass!
Native Spirit
Three evenings of live entertainment. Nice to meet the dancers/ musicians.
Kay Peterson's 90th birthday bash
Best part  is always Kay Peterson – Escapees founder. We celebrated her 90th birthday with a party and a dance.
Duane and Jean Mathis
Duane and Jean Mathes did an amazing job; it was their first year as Escapade coordinators. What a lot of work!
We love a good dance and appreciate a dance floor with room to move!

The Desert is Calling

And speaking of moving. The Escapade work/play week is behind us and it’s time to move on. The desert is calling. It’s a great year for wildflowers; let’s go find them!

We returned home on 28 March from five months of travel through Arkansa, Mississippi, Louisianna, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. We didn’t pay once for overnight parking.

We live in Vancouver, BC so it took us 14 days to drive home from the northeast corner of Alabama. We talked about driving home through Arizona but didn’t. When I told my husband you and Randy were in Tuscon for Escapade, he said he would go just to meet you!

We both love your books and though we don’t meet other RVers that much when we travel, when we do I always tell them about your books and website. Soon as you complete the revisions for your California books we will be buying them and following in your footsteps. We used your New Mexico and Texas book for our five month trip in 2015/16 and your Arizona book and some of your Utah book for our 2 1/2 month trip in 2015. Enjoy your discoveries and travel in California!
